The club's priority will be to continue running training sessions as planned and when it is safe to do so. However, when we are subject to freezing conditions or extreme weather warnings, the club's management committee may cancel or alter sessions.

Determining factors:

Extreme weather warnings — Training sessions will be cancelled when the Met Office issues extreme weather warnings for the local area, specifically advising the public not to drive on public roads unless absolutely necessary. The club cannot be responsible for asking coaches and parents to travel to training under these circumstances.

Freezing Temperatures — Freezing temperatures following a period of wet weather cause ice patches to form on the track. This is particularly hazardous for athletes and coaches and poses a high likelihood of injury. In these circumstances, the Bracknell Leisure Centre management team and Bracknell Athletic Club will decide whether the track is safe. If the track is deemed unsafe, all training will be cancelled.

If the track is deemed safe for athletes and coaches to continue training, athletes and their parents should ensure suitable clothing is worn for the conditions.

Extreme Heat - Athletics activities will be modified or cancelled if the temperature, including when the heat index, exceeds (28°C).

Lightning - In the event of thunder and lightning, all activities on the track will be suspended immediately. Layers can be added or removed depending on temperature, activity, and wind chill.

· Begin with wicking fabric next to the skin; wicking will keep the body warm and dry and eliminate the moisture retention of cotton. For example, polypropylene and wool can wick moisture away from the skin and retain insulating properties when wet.

Add lightweight pile or wool layers for warmth and use a wind-blocking garment to avoid wind chill.

Try to keep dry by wearing waterproof clothing.

Because heat loss from the head and neck may account for as much as 40 per cent of total heat loss, the head and ears should be covered during cold conditions.

Hand coverings should be worn as needed, and a scarf or face mask should be worn in extreme conditions.
